Diana Hamer

Bio

Diana Hamer is a Toronto visual artist, celebrationist and MD Emeritus. She has been showing work in Toronto galleries and art shows for the last 15 years. In 2015 Diana showed the series “Mutt Shots”, 36 portraits of dogs, at The Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition at Nathan Philips Square. The series explored mammalian facial expression and its role as a powerful communicator of emotion.

She brings a new series of portraits to the 2018 Science Rendezvous; portraits of the universe. She popped the tops off the silos of art, mathematics and science to see what kind of images might emerge from the imaginative intermingling of these distinct disciplines. Combining abstract images and the beautiful notation of mathematics, “Entropy and Order” explores concepts in classical and quantum physics, including spacetime, gravity, dark matter and quantum states. Science and technology have enabled us to observe the natural world well beyond the scope of our everyday senses. They give us even more opportunity to be filled with wonder and awe.
