Emergent Practices in Communication<\/strong><\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

The following public series<\/strong> has been conceived as part of “Emergent Practices in Communication”, an advanced course hosted at the beautiful York University’s own Glendon Campus. Supported by a Academic Innovation Fund, this special series consists of 5 public engagements with pedagogical and experiential learning goals. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The main objective is to provide opportunities for students to not only achieve a better and more nuanced understanding of the complexities involved in interspecies communication in relation to our technological networks, but also to develop a better intersectional appreciation for responsible consumption and production, collaborative and collective work, communication with different forms of knowledge, and untimately, care. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

An important hands on component of the course is to help build, care for, and document a site specific installation by Markham-based artist Xiaojing Yan. The launch of the installation, which will constantly transform and will be visible throughout the Fall 23′ term, will be followed by four afternoon hybrid events featuring international artists and community organizers engaged in land based knowledge production and care, interspecies communication and community engagement.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Mycosymbiosis: an installation by Xiaojing Yan<\/strong>
Outside of Glendon Hall <\/strong><\/strong><\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Mycosymbiosis is a time-based and site-specific installation at Glendon. The installation will be located on the balcony adjacent to Historic Glendon Manor’s ballroom. On Monday,  Oct 2, we met in front of the Manor ( Glendon Hall<\/a>) at 5 pm to launch the installation. A reception in the Ballroom followed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The installation consists of a mobile gallery containing a variety of mushrooms which grow, decay and renew, weaving their intricate forms through its interstitial space and the responding to the surrounding natural environment.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n
